Sri Maha Prathyangira Devi

Sri Maha Prathyangira Devi is an Ugra Rupa of Kali Devi. She is depicted having the face of a lioness with four hands holding a snake noose (rope) to restrain evil. She holds a goad (small axe) to remove attachments. She also holds a trisoolam (trident) which is to uphold dharma and protect devotees. Her bottom left holds a kapalam which is an inverted skull cup which holds wine of intoxication of divine. She sits seated on alion with a smile to remind us not to fear as she is always with her devotees. She is one of the wings present on Lord Sarabeswara (shiva) along with Soolini Durga Devi. She is adorned with mala (garland) of lime. During her homam she is offered dry whole red chillies which she consumes to reduce her anger. Though terrific to see she is divine mother and always protective of her children.
